  Rocking up near closing time as we were passing through with our two young boys we were welcomed with nothing but a warm smile and excellent knowledge of the history of the surrounding area and the lovely wines to taste. I was also given a rundown on the awesome cd that was playing from the lovely staff member. A great place that I will revisit one day when I return to Australia. Thank you Shut The Gate Wines.

  Cellar door meets sprawling hippie drop-in house. Friendly owners, often floating around tending the vibe of visitors, passing around snacks, or opening not-strictly-on-the-menu bottles to taste - a real experience. Oh, and top-notch wine.

  Clare Valley has many great small and boutique wineries, however Shut the Gate is well worth the visit. The cellar door has a lot of personality; its warm, casual approach to wines is delightfully different. Enjoy a tasting (with some complimentary cheese!) with staff who are knowledgable and happy to help. Highly recommended.
